Furnas de Santo António

This region comprises a islet spanning 0.16 hectares, located close to the coastline and composed of basaltic flows, now covered with some soil, facilitating the growth of natural vegetation.

This nature reserve is encompassed within the Special Protection Area (SPA) of Furnas de Santo António in the Natura 2000 network, the Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) of Furnas de Santo António designated by BirdLife International. Additionally, it holds a prominent position within the priority geosite of Arriba Fóssil de Santo António-São Roque (fossil sea-cliff) of the Azores UNESCO Global Geopark.
